Join a gym that is close to your home and work
It doesn’t have to be the most expensive or swankiest new gym. Convenience is key here. A lot of gyms will give you a week pass to try their facility. . Carve 30 minutes out of your day to workout. You can do anything for 30 minutes…
Schedule your workout (like an appointment)
Put your 30 minute workout into your calendar. I like to do this at the beginning of the week for the whole week. Take the guesswork out of it. If you wait until the day of, it is easy for the workout to get shoved aside. Remember, fitness is not a luxury…it is a priority.
Start with Cardio
I like to go straight for the eliptical machine and do intervals for 10-15 minutes. I set the incline at the max, and resistance level on the high end. I start out at a natural pace, and at the top of each minute I go as hard and fast as I can for 20 seconds. This is an interval and it is the key to fitness and weight loss. You can do these same intervals on the treadmill. You should be out of breath and sweaty after your cardio.
There are some great machines that give quick results and are simple to use. On your first visit ask a trainer to show you around and how to use the basic equipment. Hammer curls are a great arm exercise. See video below:
Lastly, I do a few core exercises like Ball Sit-ups and Mountain Climbers (see below)
There you have it! Commit to 30 minutes a day for the next week. After 30 minutes, leave the gym…you are done. When first starting this program, you may be tempted to stay longer – resist this temptation. Once you get into a routine you can make adjustments, but for now – its 30 minutes and out!
